"FEFU and other top government universities. NMC/WHO/ECFMG recognized. Fully English medium classes."
Thinking this country is right for you? It might be. Or it might be a financial disaster.
Get An AssessmentRussia is the oldest, most established MBBS destination for Indian students, and it remains the single largest sender of Kerala students through Gradiks. The reasons have not changed in a decade: government-run medical universities, six-year fully English-medium curriculum, NMC recognition at the top universities, and an alumni network of thousands of Kerala-origin doctors who completed their FMGE and now practise in India.
Cost honesty: all-in for six years, expect ₹30–40 lakhs including tuition, hostel, food, flights home, and FMGE coaching back in India. The tuition itself is only one piece — agents who quote 'just ₹25 lakhs for the whole course' are leaving out the last three items, which are the ones that actually stretch family budgets. We publish the realistic total in writing before you sign.
The FMGE conversation: Russia's top government universities have the highest FMGE pass rates among non-ex-Soviet MBBS destinations, but 'highest' is not 'high' in absolute terms — FMGE is a difficult exam for any foreign graduate. Students who succeed treat every semester in Russia as FMGE preparation from year one, not just the final months before the exam. We set that expectation in the first meeting.
Real, recognized institutions Indian students commonly go to. Recognition status should always be verified at the time of application — not from a brochure.

FEFU, Mordovia National Research University, and Kazan Federal are three we have sent students to and successfully secured visas for — their names are on the real clearances we publish on /access-granted/. 'Best' depends on your NEET score, budget and climate tolerance. We match students to universities based on profile, not on university commission.
FMGE has been difficult for foreign MBBS graduates from every country, not just Russia. The National Exit Test (NExT) will be uniform for all Indian medical graduates — Indian AND foreign — so the exam gap is narrowing. What matters more than the country is how hard you study and whether you start FMGE prep from year one or leave it to year six.
Classroom teaching is in English, but your clinical rotations involve Russian-speaking patients, and day-to-day life (shopping, buses, administration) is in Russian. Most universities include Russian language as a mandatory subject in year 1 and year 2. Treat it seriously — it shows up in clinicals.
Depends on where. Moscow and Saransk routinely see -20°C in January and February. Vladivostok (FEFU) is milder because of the coastal climate. Kerala students almost always underestimate what real cold feels like for the first three weeks — plan your winter kit before you board.
